May 10 – 16, 2019
I thought it was supposed to be April showers? This week has been full of rainy days, and it’s been hard to find a good day to get out and about in the city. I still found some cool things to do inside, though.
On Friday, I wrote last weeks blog and also ran a few errands. That night, I got to discover a brand new Mexican restaurant that just opened in April on the bottom floor of a new condo. It’s called Eldorado Taco, and oh boy was it delicious. To begin, some very unique cocktails. The first thing you notice when reading the ingredients was that almost every cocktail has Mezcal in it. My cocktail was the Campeón del Sol, which had vanilla bean infused spiced rum, Mezcal, Amaro Averna, pineapple juice, lime, and cinnamon.
The menu is designed in small portions, so you are supposed to order multiple items for a full meal. So that’s what happened! A tuna ceviche, grilled corn on the cob, and a lot of tacos.
After supper, I got home and started watching a new show on Netflix called Tuca and Bertie. It’s an odd, trippy, and hilarious show while still having a good storyline. If you like Bojack Horseman, this show has the same creator. I definitely recommend checking it out.
Saturday after work, my lovely boyfriend/personal chef made a cordon bleu with asparagus and turned out amazing. There was a UFC night playing at 8 pm and I was really excited to watch the main card fights. The main event was the Women’s Strawweight Championship (shown below). I was on the edge of my seat the whole night watching those amazing fights. They were in Brazil that night and their fighters were losing up until the women’s main event. The crowd went wild when the Brazilian, Jessica Andrade, knocked out the champ Rose Namajunas to take the belt for herself.
Sunday was Mother’s Day, so I called up my mother in the morning and went out shopping in the afternoon. I had the urge to get some home shopping done that I’ve put off. On the shopping list there was a bed frame with headboard, comforter, and decorate the dining room (mainly placemats and a painting). It turned out to be a very successful trip! The comforter was ordered to come in on Tuesday, and the bed frame to come in next Tuesday. It was such a happy day with the sun out and 15 degrees Celsius.
Monday I deep cleaned the kitchen and actually brought out my ukulele. I started listening to Billie Eilish songs and it got me in a really creative music headspace. I find Billie’s songs to be really creative, unique, and has a dark/creepy feel on some songs. She sounds so raw with emotion when she sings. If you check out her songs, I definitely recommend watching her music videos at the same time.
Tuesday I had a friend over for a few hours. We ate brunch at my place, chatted and watched Netflix. After she left, I went to go pick up my new comforter set and ate at Wendy’s for supper. I don’t know about you guys, but I actually prefer Wendy’s burgers to any other fast food burger spot (including McDonald’s). What is your favourite fast food burger joint? Comment below!
On the way back home, there was so much traffic, it took 40 minutes when it would normally take 10 minutes. With one of the main bridges being closed from the flooding in Ottawa, the traffic has been insane lately. There has also been an increase in crashes with all the road rage. When I looked online when it would re-open, it said there will be construction to begin soon. They think it will be reopened after summer. So, the whole summer I will be trying to avoid rush hour!
Wednesday I started writing this blog post and went for a walk to see the tulips. Ottawa has an annual Tulip Festival with thousands of tulips planted around the city. This festival is a memorial to the Canadian troop’s role in the liberation of the Netherlands and Europe during World War II, as well as the birth of Dutch Princess Margriet in Ottawa. After WWII, the Dutch gave tulips to Canadians as a symbol for international friendship. There are musical performances, almost 1 million tulips planted (100 different kinds), and it draws over 600k visitors each year!
I didn’t get too far before it started to rain so, unfortunately, my walk was cut short. I decided to go run errands instead. When I was at the bank, I got up to the counter and their computers froze. Not 2 minutes later, the power goes out in the whole building. After waiting probably 20 minutes more for their system to come online again, I finished what I needed to, then the power went out again! Walking out down the street, there were police and fire trucks. It turns out a car had hit a hydro pole and the whole block was out of power.
Thursday I went into the spa/club because there was a celebration for their 3 year anniversary. Cake, drinks, and lots of sexy ladies to get a massage with! I said my congratulations to the boss and hung out and chatted with the girls there.
In the next few days, I hope to get out and see more of the Tulip Festival, hopefully with no rain. The forecast has been calling for a lot of rainy days, so fingers crossed. I’m also excited to get my new bed frame in next week! For those celebrating Victoria Day on Monday, do you have any plans? Comment below!
Thanks for reading!

Hey
Another really good blog… it’s always good to hear what you’re up to …
And especially to hear where you’ve eaten.
The Mexican sounded very good ..and some nice photos of the tacos . Yum !!
And your boyfriend cooking you cordon blue with asparagus ! Nice too…asparagus season is here in the UK. It’s a relatively short season and I love asparagus… so it’s with chicken and salmon . So good 🙂
Comments about burgers ? Well we don’t have Wendy’s over here ; Mcdonalds and Burger King , yes – they’re both pretty average . We also have 5 Guys, which I know are global, but in my opinion, not one of the best .
Billie Eilish… I know we chatted about her in your cam show … but yes she’s a talent . Only 17; very innovative … weird and creepy some of it.. turn the lights off; put on headphones … it’s good to listen to.
An overcast but dry UK Saturday morning.
Have a good weekend … hope to see you soon.
And still loving the site
Colin. xx
