Tulip Town

Hello! This week was full of tulip sightings and great food. I barely made it out to the Tulip Festival in between rain periods, but I did manage to capture some photos together.

Friday I picked up a friend after their procedure at the hospital and while waiting, I wrote last week’s blog. Driving back home after dropping them off took 1.5 hours! The traffic has been insane here as I mentioned last week. It was a chill night and I ordered delivery for dinner and decided to go out on Saturday.

The sun was shining on Saturday! After camming, I went into the Major’s Hill Park in downtown where a few tulip flower beds were to take some pictures. It felt so good to be in summer clothing outside, even for just a few hours. After my mini photo session, it was time for food! In the Byward Market, there is a yummy restaurant called Sidedoor. The food there was amazing! A lot of their main plates have a good amount of spice, so I went with multiple sharing plates. I had a drink to start off, of course. It was called “The Cleanse”, made with gin, aloe juice, cucumber, lime, and simple syrup.

The plates ordered: mushroom tostada (with halloumi cheese, salsa and bonito yolk), dumplings (pork, chicken, and pineapple), and three different kinds of tacos (one pork, one chorizo, and one shrimp chef’s feature).

When you eat at Sidedoor, you can’t pass up the house-made donuts for dessert. They are so amazing! Below are two chef’s feature (cream-filled strawberry dip, topped with granola), and one dark chocolate dip. They also have cinnamon sugar and white chocolate cranberry.

Sunday morning I was craving a brunch. So I went back to Edgar in Gatineau. On weekends they have a special brunch with only 4 menu options (2 change every week). One of their specialties is the Dutch Baby. It is a waffle-type pastry bowl filled with apples, pork belly, old cheddar, maple syrup, and cinnamon for the sweet and savory tooth. The new plate that I had was called Asperge. Asparagus, roasted ham, potatoes, brioche bread, fried leeks, marinated fiddleheads, and poached eggs.

After eating that delicious meal, I walked over to the Ottawa river. The water is still high and you can see where it had peaked on the grass. A little further was a beach, but not much of one right now. As you can see in the picture, the signs and lifeguard chairs are swimming in the flood.

While over there, I checked out the Gatineau Park, and it was open! They said some trails are still closed due to the floods, but most are open for the season. Coming home, groceries were the next stop. After putting them away at home, I saw the clouds getting darker, and I wanted to go back out to the tulips. Making my way over to the flower beds, it started raining. Luckily, I had an umbrella and it stopped not long after I arrived. I took my pictures and went back home. It rained the rest of the night.

Monday was Victoria Day and most places were either closed or had limited open hours. It’s a statutory holiday across Canada with the Maritime Provinces being the exception. After working out in the morning, I went over to Commissioners Park by Dow’s Lake to see the tulips. I ended up buying a bouquet of tulips to take pictures with for my upcoming June photo set. At home, I watched the Game of Thrones finale. I won’t go into too much detail, but I just want to say that it was pretty disappointing. So many questions unanswered and character foreshadowing just thrown away it seemed.

On a more positive note, I did another workout Tuesday morning. Then I got ready for my photo shoot with the tulips I just bought the day before. It was super fun to find different ways to use flowers! I can’t wait for you guys to see the finished product in June. For dinner, I had homemade salmon sushi cones and sat on my balcony before hopping online.

Wednesday and Thursday were pretty similar. Cleaning the apartment, writing my blog and editing the June photo set. I took a break day for working out Wednesday, but I was back at it Thursday morning.

Ottawa is starting to warm up with the temperature in the day getting up to at least 15 degrees Celsius. I can’t wait to show you the pretty tulips I posed with! Also, an update on the bed frame delivery, it will be coming mid-June now. Oh well, as long as it’s not in 6 months again, finger’s crossed. I have a busy Friday planned and going with the flow for the rest of the week. I’ll tell you all about it the next blog post!

Thanks for reading!

xoxo Lacey
